In the past Peter has said the torches are mostly off the shelf components, although there is some lead time needed for their suppliers. Plasma torches have been around for decades. There is lots of interesting work going on in finding new uses for them. So the key ingredient is really their patent, and the work done to date in validating their effectiveness.
