The Easton Water Division has taken the following proactive measures:
The Easton Water Division has installed a self-service water filling station to provide water with levels of PFAS6 below 20 ng/L to those in sensitive subgroups. Information on this filling station will be available HERE, or by calling the PFAS hotline (508) 230-0642, or emailing waterquality@easton.ma.us.
PFAS monitoring and the study of PFAS treatment options are ongoing.
Our public water system will continue monthly sampling of all sources/wells entering our distribution system. We will keep you informed by providing quarterly notices of all monitoring and our short and long-term plans and efforts to meet the MCL and reduce PFAS6 exposure.
In June 2020, Town Meeting approved $110,000 to fund a PFAS engineering study to identify long-term PFAS treatment options. On September 28, 2020, MassDEP awarded the Town of Easton with a PFAS design grant in the amount of $200,000. The Town of Easton has hired an engineering firm to complete a PFAS preparedness study to determine how to best remove PFAS contaminants from our drinking water. The preliminary results of that study recommend the installation of PFAS treatment filter plants at wells 1, 2, and 4. The Town is actively working on the design of these treatment plants while we request additional funds for construction.
In May of 2021, Town Meeting approved capital funding of $9.2 million for the final design and construction of PFAS treatment filter plants. The funds for these treatment plants will have an impact on future water rates, which will be increased by the Water Commissioners/Select Board to fund the construction of the PFAS treatment plants.
It is expected that the Water Division will complete the design and construction of these PFAS treatment plants in approximately 18-24 months.
