Plasma Torches and Aluminum Remelting Furnace

Plasma Torches and Aluminum Remelting FurnaceSome great points from @helloween from ceo regarding PyroGenesis and their plasma torches for use in Aluminum Remelting Furnace.  Note that Juan E. Salazar, Director of Product and Strategic Development Aluminumat PYR, will be presenting on this topic at TMS 2024.

@helloween  @BCONTVentures about Hydro Norsk, I didn't remember this NR from 2022, but now I think the dots are all connected: https://ir.pyrogenesis.com/news-releases/news-release-details/pyrogenesis-announces-participation-decarbonization-fuel/

From PYR NR "the Company has been engaged by a major international aluminum company to help in their decarbonization efforts, with a specific goal to investigate the feasibility of applying PyroGenesis’ plasma torches as a heating source in their cast house furnaces."

From Hydro NR : "We aim to change the game for aluminium production. Plasma technology is both high tech and future oriented. If we succeed with the pilot project at Sunndal it will not only affect the aluminium industry, but also other hard-to-abate industries worldwide. Hydro aims to melt the first aluminium with near zero emissions from the casthouse at Sunndal in the fourth quarter of 2025."

"The Client is one of the largest aluminum companies worldwide, active across multiple continents."

From Hydro website : "Company presence in around 40 countries worldwide"

From PYR NR : "PyroGenesis’ plasma torches, which are powered entirely with electricity, is one of the options they are evaluating as a potential replacement for carbon-emitting natural gas burners in their furnaces,”

From Hydro NR : "Re-melting aluminium into new products requires extremely high temperatures, an energy intensive process which is hard to achieve without fossil energy in the form of natural gas. However, new plasma technology will enable electrification of the process, using the same renewable energy that powers Hydro’s primary smelters."

From PYR NR : "This is one of many companies that we are working with, who have publicly acknowledged a need to reduce emissions and are constantly working to develop aluminum alloys with a low carbon footprint."

From Hydro website : "Hydro is a leading aluminium and renewable energy company committed to a sustainable future. Our purpose is to create more viable societies by developing natural resources into products and solutions in innovative and efficient ways."

From David D'Aoust's LinkedIn (PYR Sales Manager):

Direct electrification via plasma torches is the most efficient solution for decarbonizing high-temperature industrial processes. This applies to the production of aluminum, glass, cement, iron ore, steel and ceramics.

At PyroGenesis Canada Inc. / PyroGense Canada inc. we are addressing ~17% of the worlds fossil fuel use, primarily by replacing polluting gas burners across those sectors with our emissions-free electric plasma torches.

Plasma torches are an environmental technology first and foremost, but will ultimately usurp the status quo of fossil fuel combustion as they are capable of reducing operating costs and improving overall process efficiency. Environmental technologies that simultaneously reduce costs will naturally achieve widespread adoption first.

My colleague Juan E. Salazar, P.Eng.
will be presenting our results in the application of plasma torches in aluminum melting furnaces at TMS 2024. If you are an aluminum producer interested in decarbonization and furnace efficiency improvement, we hope to see you there.

On that note, congratulations to Norsk Hydro and Hilde Merete Aasheim
on the definitive step forward.
