How does further reducing the free public float through a share buyback help? The only path forward is to stick with the plan and apply time.

Numerous ways.. profit per share, putting a floor under the selling, which in turn forces buyers to buy at higher prices, adds competition to the buy side which in turn increases share price, which is fundamental to the NPV of the company, which in turn enables better financing metrics and possible equity raises.. after all the price of the shares, is the company's currency, in the case of a ...more

You are making the assumption that with fewer shares the trading trickery that has plagued share price will stop when in fact it will increase. There is also the reality that those who are charged with the responsibility of buying back the shares will do the same thing that you and I do which is try to buy at the lowest possible price so you can't be guaranteed they will do everything possible ...more

Well actually the "assumptions" you think I'm making have played out with many companies I follow.. case in point.. VMD jumped ~$1 in share since the announcement of a NCIB.. although there are no guarantees in life, history shows that a smaller share float and active buying by management, tells the market the shares are undervalued.. often that's the motive others need for ...more
