Details on WiLanI'm new to this board and have been considering WiLan for the last month or so.
I know my office uses a wireless connection so I decided to do some research. Our internet provider gives us wireless access (which we've had now for about 6 months or so) via an Airolink connection. Consequently, I did a search on Airolink and found that the company was purchased by Cisco. Cisco currently offers an entire Airolink product line. Airolink is based on spread-spectrum technology and the Airolink service is available at 11Mbps - comparable to your average wired-office LAN at 10Mbps. According to WiLan's web site, they believe spd-spectrum to max out at about 15Mbps. WiLan currently offers 33Mbps with their W-OFDM technology and claim that they will be able to offer 100Mbps in the near future. Cisco's website indicates that they sell an OFDM-based wireless bridge or router capable of 44Mbps. Well,
I'm somewhat confused. Could someone PLEASE clear all this up for me and others? I want to be able to sit in a coffee shop or in my backyard and be able to wirelessly connect to my office's LAN at 33Mbps. Does Wi-Lan provide wireless PCMCIA cards as well as the 33Mbps access point? What costs are involved? Does Cisco have a comparable technology? I've written WiLan investor relations on this last week and haven't heard back yet. Anyone's comments on this are welcome before the day's end. Thanks, Gumbster.
