cabbieJBJ - if you were to do a case study on APPL's motivation for efficient infringement vs settlement, you don't have to look any further than VirnetX (efficient infringement) and Qualcomm (settlement). Qualcomm's Snapdragon chips are needed by APPL for their initial 5G rollout.

I tend to agree that legal costs and interest don't tip the scales for APPL to settle. Wi-lan's leverage needs to come from the strength of other areas in their patent portfolio (e.g. semiconductors).
