Cuban Medical System

My father in law was recently in Varadero Cuba and while he was there he became ill with a pneumonia that in retrospect he had before he left Canada.  The nurse at the resort where he was staying came to his room and examined him.  She then sent him to a local medical centre for x rays.  The medical centre then sent him to the hospital.

While the hospital he ended up at was old he described his experience at the hospital and the general level of care he received at each step of the way as excellent.  

This kind of affirms what you hear about medical care in Cuba.

Yes the doctors are fine people and take care of you. My heart goes out to them though because they don't get the standard of living that doctors in US or Canada have. They make peanuts. I've been there many times. Once went with a freind who had a benign lump on his arm. He went to a clinic had the minor surgery done.....perfectly... for something like $40. Yes good medical services and used to doing without.  Did ur father-in-law experience any food shortages?
