I sold all my positions: 60 cents, 54 cents and 47 cents.....When the S&P fell below 4500 January 20 I unloaded the last two positions...After witnessing yesterdays games, I feel darn good....It was a setup to get investors to hang on as money managers/funds unload...I feel we will meet & greet S&P 3500 sooner then later...Too much risk to ignore...

have you looked into the high dividend stocks such as DF or DGS? Not sure how they work but apparently they pay out around 18% dividend. Anyone have thoughts on those types of stocks?
Comment by oceaneleven on Jan 26, 2022 11:32am
Yes Dickey!!! I have large investment in DF...collect your monthly divy....
Comment by Dickey01 on Jan 26, 2022 11:40am
well i'd imagine one could live fairly well in ecuador with an %18 payout on a large investment. My question is, how is it possible for something to pay out that kind of dividend? How long have you been in it and does the dividend pay out what it says it pays out?
Comment by rkhosla on Jan 26, 2022 11:51am
I would like to know as well.  Says NAV is $16 and you are garunteed original value at disolution Dec 2024 https://www.quadravest.com/df-fund-features
Comment by oceaneleven on Jan 26, 2022 12:15pm
yes the divy is paid as stated each month...if it were to pay out less, they would tell you each month..If you were to buy today, you would be settled in by Jany 31 and would receive your 10 cent per share in February....They can afford to pay out as they are invested in great stocks that have nice divy and share appreciation....Banks, telecom, O&G etc.. Many of these companies have increased ...more

I just scanned the original 2006 prospectus.  below NAV $15 they halt divy.  Original price of $15 'guaranteed' at disolution.  they have had a bunch of roll overs and kept this thing going now for over 15 years.  I have had great auccess with anither closed end fund (CGI) and like tge model
Comment by Dickey01 on Jan 26, 2022 12:26pm
yeah, but none of those great stocks that they invest in have anything close to 18% dividend. i guess it depends on the share appreciation of those stocks? I guess if the SP's go down so does the dividend?
Comment by rkhosla on Jan 26, 2022 12:59pm
Correct but it is trading at exactly 1/3 NAV and therefore it's dividend is three times that of the underlying holdings. You are buying it at a 66% discount.
Comment by Dickey01 on Jan 26, 2022 1:06pm
I always wondered why the volume is pretty low on those stocks. You would think everyone and their cousins and their cousins cousin would be loading up on these?

What do you think about FFN Ocean?
Comment by oceaneleven on Jan 26, 2022 2:47pm
Hi Bubbles!!! I did look at that one when choosing what to add to portfolio but it is all financial sector....I wanted a little bit of telecom & O&G companies along with the financial sector so I went with DF...
Comment by WillmaImhome on Jan 26, 2022 3:14pm
Hi ocean!! Good to see you . FFN PAYING GOOD monthly dividend..:) banks seem to be doing great on the Canadian side .
Comment by WillmaImhome on Jan 26, 2022 3:15pm

Investing is a tough business. You gotta be nimble, you gotta keep an open mind, you gotta keep your eyes and ears open, and a sixth sense helps too but not everyone has it.....and still failure is always just one mistake away even for the pros. Personally I can't see how a company like sherritt will rise from the mess its in while we are sliding towards a possible bear market. Possible being ...more
