Clarification - Open Pit Mining and the Vatican

Why would the Vatican have any leverage on the approval of EO 130 IRR (lifting of open pit mining ban)? Because - "The Philippines proudly boasts to be the only Christian nation in Asia. More than 86 percent of the population is Roman Catholic.

I don't even necessarily think approval of these parties will be required. I do agree they will promote TSM and enforcement of enviro regulations but the Vatican needs a cause to stay relevant meanwhile people starve to death in Phil or have to eat garbage time to get jobs going

Agreed - I used the word appeased earlier ... we do not need more protests and social media backlash at this point. I'm sure "donations" would be widely accepted by the church...just say'n.

Large congregations can be influenced or swayed (by the Vatican) to either back or reject the mining ban.. just look at these numbers -  it's estimated that 84 million Filipinos, or roughly 82.9% to 85% of the population, profess the Catholic faith.
