Brokerage firms providing drip verses surge providing drip 2 totally different things , brokerage firms just buying shares on open market for surge and putting shares into your account , If surge started a drip of their own they issue shares at a certain discounted price relative to average market price
yes if surge started their own drip it would be dilutive to shareholders but they would save a ton of money in dividends being paid out in cash ( that is how cresent point energy is surviving by a thread with such a high dividend and low oil prices)
