Laci, The Comex will never "default" by not delivering metal. Technically they do not have to deliver the metal. Shorts have the option of settling in cash.

The danger lies in the fact that legitimate businesses and individuals use the Comex to obtain their silver (a small percentage) and if the Comex can no longer or is not willing to deliver silver than the trading on the Comex will dry up and it will become pointless and irrelevant. Considering that the price is fixed on the LBMA and Comex this would drive the pricing mechanism to the physical market which is what would really cause the fireworks!!!
