Living in Asia, where many Chinese take holidays, I have learned a lot about their behaviour.

I would suggest anyone sent to negotiate with the Chinese should be first trained to eat with them at a hotel buffet.

You may be twice the size, but they are organized, countless in numbers, in squads, and some teams will block, push, fake out, and squeeze by in front of you to get all the shrimp, spilling and spoiling many in the process for those that follow.

The act of taking the 2 Michaels hostage speaks volumes about the morals of the CCP, as well as do the excuses for banning Canadian products costing us billions.

They know our weakness is our politeness and morals, and we are quick to concede. Don't be afraid to wear hockey equipment as proper dining attire, don't give them an inch, and stand your ground in front of the oysters. I started to, and once they see that you can't be pushed around, they change their attitude and get in line to wait their turn. It works.

This is by no means a racial thing, it is a behavioural thing.

China rant over.

i think ukraine quagmire is playing into china's hand. The more US get entangled with russia over ukraine, the more doubt the US allies (Japan, Taiwan, south korea) have on the US ability to defend them from china, and open up window of opportunity for china to take taiwan and rises up as new hegemon of asia.

In 4 years, Trump has done more than any other president to destroy what little trust and reputation the US had remaining globally, and withdrew support leaving countries that relied on them hanging out to dry, and the Chinese gladly moved in to take their place. Allies were thrown under the bus, and trade tariff walls came up as it was 'America first, and damn the rest'.

I wonder how Taiwan feels now that the west showed just how deep their committment is to oppose an invasion of a foreign country, by balking on the main deterrent to a Russian invasion of Ukraine.

And how does the world feel about all this?
Futures are down, and oil marches higher...

Bang on Migraine.

I recall being involved in International negotiations sponsored through a Committee of the United Nations in Geneva back in the 1970s.  I noticed that the head of the Zambian delegation was a very smart man and was eating the Americans for lunch at the negotiating table.  I asked him to have lunch with me and he kindly accepted.

At lunch, I commented about my observation regarding his negotiation skills.  He gave me a big smile and said, and I still remember his words to this day, "I have an MBA from the Harvard Business School and am also the eldest son of our tribal chief.  So I know how the Americans think but they have no clue how I think and this gives me a great advantage."

The life lesson learned that day was certainly worth the price of the lunch!!
