RE:Yikes!!!....All this NOW makes sense.... Tuesday statement from Suncor said it responded Sunday to "silty conditions" at the pond. It said the water collected is surface water, meaning it is naturally occurring and includes snow melt and precipitation.
"This water is not process water and is approved for discharge," spokesperson Erin Rees said.
She said the region and the river see high run-off in the spring and Suncor regularly sees sediment concentrations "far greater than what was discharged from our pond."
Spokespeople for the Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation and Mikisew Cree First Nation say the bands were notified of the release Monday.
