I also give NZ credit. There not banning sales of ICE vehicles just offering a incentive to buy the electric.

Merimat Good points I don't know the math concerning the energy to make a plastic fork compared to recycling a wood one but my guess is that it is less since you need petrochemicals to make the plastic fork in the first place and then there would be energy consumption for the recycling. Perhaps there are people here that know this math.

don't need credit, regular gas is 2.31 CAD/liter in NZ

Well sorta... I was paying 2,40-2.60/litre NZ$ which is about 2.15 or so CAD but that was for 91 octane which equates to premium gas here. That said, the higher gas prices does make the math for EVs better.

We must differentiate between the lefty craze that is climate change and common sense approaches to the problem of plastic pollution. NZ seems to be doing some things right

Postscript to the previous post.... another time on a hike we missed a turn. This other hiker stopped and asked me if I needed help. I said I think we are lost and he asked where we were going and took to a key place and gave us directions from there. Guess in NZ looking like a dork pays off....lo
