Glad to hear that you are still looking down at the grass as opposed to looking up at it!!! Just a point of clarification, there already is a clawback on the OAS if your income is above a certain level. That said, I do agree with your sentiment.  When Governments put their thumb on the scale, most of the time all they do is screw up the natural business/economic ecosystem and create ...more

In the current environment why would you invest anywhere other than oil if youre an oil producer? The wind/solar is a joke. Theres no money in it. All these companies are spending a fortune to reduce there emissions never mind the multi billions the group of oils sands companies will be spending on CC

Merimat - a couple of things I didn't say anything about SU investing in solar or wind. Your comment means that if you are in the camp that believes the future returns from investing in an oil producer will better than anywhere else.  My view is the opposite.  So, as I said in my previous post, SU is a one trick pony and so if things don't go well for future oil prices (ie they ...more

"All SU would need to do is to have a talk with the Government agency that is evaluating grant applications from companies like that and get the list..." You see that's the ironic thing about all this Experienced.  If companies like SU weren't out there earning $billions in profit and paying $billions in taxes, these "start-ups" (which will most will fail, most ...more

matt2018: - in 2022, the Government of Albera will COLLECT oil sands ROYALTIES of ~ $ 20 BILLION * this does NOT include the CORPORATE income taxes or oil sands company employee INDIVIDUAL income tax payable z173
Comment by matt2018 on Sep 25, 2023 2:11pm
Incredible isnt it. True figure for total taxes generated by oil sands businesses would likely be $100B+ How many 1000's of theses bogus start-ups and how many decades would it take the ones that survive to pay that amount of taxes combined? Nevermind that, they wouldnt even be able to likely generate tax revenue to offset the money they take out of government coffers for grants, interest free ...more

Very comforting to know that all these billions in tax dollar returns from the O/G provinces will go towards to offset the more than $80 billion the Feds doled out on CERB.

Wise words befree.....always a good idea to look over your shoulder and see if you are missing something important.  Failure to do so = lost money

Funny how CERB sounds so much like "serf".  Serfdom - one lord controlling everything through debt bondage. Step 1 - create the debt.

Then what would you have SU invest in?  Perhaps buy out a NG company to add a gas play...its an idea.  Possibley buy into a company thats investing in emmision reductions?  Maybe.   Oil companies should stick to there bread and butter.  If I wanted to invest in something to do with the transition I would not be looking at a heavy oil play. This is a 3-5 year time ...more

So you voted for Libs/NDP in the last (so-called) elections?  I just read that the CCP is now building two new coal-fired power plants per week.  I wish I could find that news story.
