Seems that the trend of shorting SU has dried up and gone away.  Bullish.

Actually I kinda like it when a stock I like is under a short attack since it means that I can buy the company at a discount. Once they have covered their positions-then it takes a lot of good news for the SP to go up a lot.    So frankly my friend  IMO...lack of interest by shorts is bearish not bullish for a strategic and patient  investor

I'm the opposite. Looking back, a short attack with substantial volumes helped drive the stock price down in November, and then when it abated in December, the stock also stopped dropping and bottomed, and is now making headway, improving along with the others. Eventually the risk/return of shorting more stock becomes too great, and the short volume falls off, leading to a bottom. They also ...more

Not sure we are saying anything different. When I see the price being driven down by shorts it catches my attention as an opportunity to buy something on sale.  When I see the price bottoming out and going up with volume, it means that the short attack is over and they are covering and I buy in.  Once they have covered then I will reassess and typically sell my position since the buying ...more

We are on the same page then. The toughest part for me is forcing myself to be disciplined enough to sell, as I often have such a long term bullish confirmation bias.

Nothing wrong with having a long term view if you feel comfortable with what you own and are ready to sell if something significant happens.  Over the years I have had many companies that I have held a core position in for decades. In the case of oil we clearly have different perspectives.  While I don't see oil as necessarily a bad investment, I do believe that there are and will be ...more
