Prices on EV’s are front loaded

The EV cheerleaders only tell you how much money you can save if you eliminate the maintenance that comes with owning an ICE vehicle. What they don't tell you is that you already paid for that convenience up front when you purchased your car. It amazes me that people fall for this.

Not only is it more costly, but you can make a sound argument that it depreciates at a faster rate too. So, you are effectively paying more for a car that depreciates faster but they dont tell you that part. They want your money and they want your blood. Do you want heated seats? Don't worry, that will be a monthly subscription and you can have it. Do you want a side view mirror? Well, that's going to cost you extra.

What a sad world we live in.

Totally agree here , pretty much the left wing politics , on top of that with todays interest rate , more upfront more interest payment , who want to buy a 140000km ev ......you much safer buy a 1400000 km Toyota or honda , I bought a 2012 camary hybrid new for 23k drove it until 327000 km and change break once and spark plug one sold it 2019 for 8700$ , that was the best investment I did in my ...more

Depreciation and insurance are the elephants in the EV room.

Rubbish. Tesla's best selling car in the world, their SUV Model Y is already priced lower than the average ICE vehicle in America.  On top of that, starting January 1st, everyone that buys one in the States gets at least $7,500 off the sticker price.  Many States offer additional subsidies. It is amazing that somewould would post that Tesla's are costly without actually knowing ...more

I kind agree about Tesla , it's a pretty good car .....but the rest are totally junk , Elon is a good fellow and a smart man , for me I like pick up truck at  decent price , so I'm far away to get an ev truck anytime soon for 50k that is  reliable , a car is useless for me but if I would get an ev car would be a Tesla , Toyota or Honda the rest it's pure junk I wound not ...more

calling model Y a SUV is a joke, it only has 6.6 inch ground clearance, built on model 3 (passager car) platform Even amatuer SUV wannabe RAV4 have better ground clearance at 8.1-8.6 inch. A Honda 600R supersport race crotch rocket motorbike has a 11 inch ground clearance.  Calling a car SUV does help it to sell car at a higher MSRP.

According your logic, the covid19 vaccine is the greatest vaccine invented ever, over 13.53 billion doses administered and counting. It is also heavily subsidized and pushed by the government too. It is priced so low (free), medical professionals don't understand why are still some people don't want it and chose more expensive alternative remedies
Comment by Torontojay on Nov 29, 2023 5:06am
Excellent point mrbb. I never took the vaccine and my covid lasted 2 days while many people I know suffered from heart attacks shortly after vaccination. I digress.  Suppose, you're right that EV cars are more affordable than regular vehicles. Is it more affordable if you have to replace that EV maybe 8 years down the road whereas a guy driving a classic Volvo can drive it for 20 ...more

Jay.....As an investor it really doesn't matter whether you are right or not about the math regarding a purchase of an EV.  The only thing that is important is what people are actually doing.  From the link in my previous post there is clear and significant upward trend towards EV purchases which will impact the math for oil produccers and hence their stock price going forward. That ...more

That is true.  As long as sales are increasing, then people are buying into it whether it's good or not. The tam for EV's is certainly massive but a world in which we have choices is a better world to live in. The green agenda is inflationary and this is the plan they are pushing even though they keep talking about restoring price stability. Justin Flation Trudeau keeps punishing us ...more

Yes Jay...agreed...it is far better for these things to be sorted out by market forces as opposed to Governments putting their thumb on the scale.  Historically, Governments have a lousy track record in terms of picking winners and losers and when they monkey around with the business ecosystem all they do is create problems. For me, since Governments are insisting on monkeying around with ...more

EV affordability improved only because of free gov't cheese and fries on the EV burger meal. Products with real improvement don't need gov't subsidies and bias regulation to push products.  Take smartphones, computers, battery powered cordless tools, they took off without any government persuasion because those products are truly innovative. Reporting and statistics of adverse ...more

It was on the news yesterday morning that a group of dealers selling electric vehicles sent a letter to the US secretary of (commerce? transportation?) complaning that their inventories are gathering dust by unsold electrically powered vehicles. They want that the appropriate Secretary take action to prevent some serious consequences their business would suffer, if the current status quo ...more

Ya the dealer ford here they have tons of garbage e-Mac mustang used and new for sales , you can have  the 2021 with full of troubles for cheap price but once  you buy this your life is hell , nobody available to fix them ,
Comment by bttmfischer on Nov 29, 2023 8:58pm
Marty47 Why are you talking about  "dealer ford here" I don't know where you live, but if you read it again it said in plain English that the letter was written by dealers of electric vehicles in the US,
Comment by Marty47 on Nov 29, 2023 9:17pm

GM bankruptcy? Not yet. General Motors (NYSE:GM) stock rose 8.9% after the auto giant reinstated its 2023 guidance, plans to boost its dividend by 33% and announced a $10 billion accelerated share buyback.
