$4,500

The BYD Seagull in the video from my last post sells for $11,500.

The Biden administration has protected the American ICE auto industry by imposing duties on Chinese vehicles.

BYD will be producing the Seagull or something similar in Mexico in a couple of years.  The Mexican made Seagull won't be subject to import duties and they will make the vehicles in such a way that it will be eligible for the IRA $7,500 EV credit.

The Mexican made BYD Seagull should end up costing consumers about $4,000 in a couple of years after accounting for the IRA credit. Think about that.  Before you start claiming that Chinese made vehicles are craap, do your homework.

The car will travel about 400km on a full charge and you will be able to charge it at home in 4 hours for about $3 if you charge it after 7pm or on weekends.

The American auto industry will continue to put up a fight, but BYD will jump through hoops to make it happen as that is what they do.  Preparations are already well under way.

At the end of the video, the host who is an EV fan says "I could live with this car".

The guest, who doesn't have a dog in the fight as his job is to tear down cars and report his findings, says "The auto industry MUST learn and they must learn QUICK".

And yet we see the American legacy auto companies gearing back on their EV efforts.  They claim  they are backing off because there is a lack of demand for EV's.  Nothing could be further from the truth as the reality is that legacy auto can't compete so they are going to milk every last cent out of their loyal customers for as long as they can.

I don't have an anti-Suncor agenda regardless of what you think. In five years, you can either own the auto equivalent to a flip phone or you can own the the automobile equivalent of an Android or Iphone.

The outcome is not in question.  Just the timing.

If you aren't anti SU, why you keep posting EV craps here, and not other oil board or TSLA, GM ford boards but only on SU board?

Obscure, Interesting video.  While I see the point you are trying to make, you are taking your argument to extremes IMO. The automotive market is vast and contains numerous levels of quality and price points.  The BYD or other cheap chinese brands will certainly effect certain market segments, but will not upset the entire automotive market in some giant catastrope. The Ford F ...more

nukester:  Well thought out post.  Questions: 1) Where are you getting your info about EV's not performing in winter.  Tesla fixed that problem a long time ago with its oxtovalve.  2) You mentioned oil reserves.  I read here many times that oil prices were bound to go back up when the US replenished its SPR.  The US hasn't bothered to replenish its SPR ...more

Excellent debate.....great points on both sides of the argument!! When I look at all this, I look at it from the perspective of  a pragmatic investor. Sooooo....what does that mean and especially in the case of the topic of the Board - ie SU? I look for answers to fundamental questions and look around at the universe of things I can invest in and then buy into the ones with the best ...more

Not too sure about where the stock price is going , I don't listen much analysts but bought at 20$ and I'm thinking selling at 50$ only 2.50$ left grab my profit and reinvest into a lagger with big dividend like Enbridge , anybody feel suncor can hit 55$ this year , my worry is the us election and a potential ceasefire but on the other hand tmx will be good for oilsand but only until q4 ...more

Marty I bought a lot higher than you but doing fine. I had set a soft target of $53. I had a target for CNQ and got out a bit early last week, but happy with a nice return. I converted it into a mixture of ENB, BMO and TOU. BMO had a not so good report so I used the Wareen Buffett strategy of buying good companies when others are selling .

Y'a will take your advice and try not to get out too soon , I will see how suncor will hit at 85 wti if we get there ..... I move out of Altagaz when I saw crescent point at 8.40$ and move to crescent point .... was a good move .

Great move on CPG. I don't always sell on my target. If I see negative stuff in the future I will and have sold lower than my target. For now I think SU has some nice upside although hedge funds and shorters certainly do impact the SU share price. On some stocks I just buy and sell. I have bought and sold CNQ 8 times in 14 months. Most of my Su I bought since 2020 and have only done   ...more
