TELUS recognized for best annual report in the world

VANCOUVER, Sept. 18 /CNW/ - TELUS Corporation produced the best annual report in the world this year, according to the Annual Report on Annual Reports, the only international ranking of corporate annual reports. The Annual Report on Annual Reports evaluates 25 aspects of corporate reporting, including executive statements, strategic direction, outlook and targets, review of operations, social responsibility, risk factors and corporate governance.
Now in its tenth year of surveying reports from around the world, enterprise.com, the Belgium-based organization controlled by U.S. Corporate Essentials, Inc., uses an independent, international rating panel to judge the annual reports and publishes the rankings for the top 300.
"This award is the latest in a long string of external recognition that confirms that TELUS' public disclosure package is best-in-class on a worldwide basis. It is consistent with our corporate values, high standards and determination to demonstrate continuous improvement," said Robert McFarlane, TELUS executive vice president and chief financial officer. "It is also revealing to note that this award comes at a time when investor scrutiny of the adequacy of public company disclosure, including income trusts, has never been so demanding or important. TELUS looks forward to continuing this track record, as an important element of our proposal to convert the entirety of TELUS into a trust and thereby create Canada's premier income trust."
Over the last three years, TELUS has improved its ranking from 18th in 2004 and second in 2005 to number one today. This year, TELUS scored exceptionally well for overall financial reporting, profile and business at a glance, strategy, outlook and prospects, financial highlights, the CEO's message, management's discussion and analysis (MD&A), and risk factors.
"TELUS is a cut above the very best, thanks to crystal-clear highlights, next-year targets that are announced in a straightforward manner and risk factors that are thoroughly described. Even accounting developments are reported intelligibly," said Annual Report on Annual Reports co-founder and editor Mike Guillaume. "There is a lot of talk about 'plain English' MD&A.
