Trying to understand the logic of a sticking with a stock that's lost 25% over the last year to collect a small dividend. If it's not in a TFSA/RRSP may be smart to take a capital loss and use it against any capital gains.Can always buy it back in a month and it may start to move up again since Telus looks like it's just completed a H & S pattern on the 3 year chart    ...more

Pretty easy to understand the logic in that different people have different investment strategies and goals. My wife & I are retirees living off dividend income so capital apprecaition doesn't really matter (other than for "bragging" rights). What matters is a company generally having regular dividend increases and of course, avoiding divy cuts. As I've mentioned previously ...more

Sarge you mentioned trading fees and dividends  I recently started moving accounts from TD + Scotia because I was tired of trading fees  Nation Bank Direct Brokerage offers Commission free trading  then I discovered another positive  their "income sweep account " sends you your dividends the next business day after they are paid  I get dividends 3 or 4 times ...more

Thanks for the suggestions but I'm very pleased with RBC DI. My wife & I do all our banking, credit cards, and investments with them and it's nice haivng everything in one place. The dividend cash always shows up on time. Take her easy   Sarge

We have been users/abusers of TD/Canada Trust since first investing many, many years ago & have NEVER  had a problem with the Div/Dist cash flow or contact inquiries. Timebuilder Here are the Facts  I have sweep accounts at Scotia, TD, NB Scotia Direct sweeps your accounts on the first day of every month  so when an ETF pays a monthly dividend on the 3 of every month, Scotia holds your dividend for 3.5 weeks before sweeping again and sending it to you  TD Direct sweeps on the 5 and 20 of  each month  NB sweeps every ...more
