Grande Prairie Meoh & NH3Need some creative accounting to be carbon neutral. In Kitimat we used 85mmcfpd to make 1350 tpd meoh and 850 tpd NH3. Natgas usage would be higher but we bought 30mw electricity at $ 0.05 pkwh to run NH3 plant copmpression. Our CO2 emissions were app 1500 tpd CO2. Railloading is costly, we had a 3km pipeline to our wharf and sold nearly all rpoduct to Asia by ship. All thats gone now to make room for the LNG dock. Regarding construction cost estimate was $110 mm to build just the meoh plant, ended up costing over $300mm,1981 dollars. Broke Ocelot, the original owner, as a company.
Modern methanol plants are now around 5000 mtpd and maybe 15 % more efficient but would still generate a lot of CO2. Methanol and ammonia plants go well together because the methanol process generates excess hydrogen which can be used as feedstock for NH3. But as Firstworld said its probably just a few people floating a dream. There's money in dreamscaping.
LNG plants were proposed for Kitimat in 2008. Now the LNG plant here is just over 50% completion in 13 years. The US started building LNG around 2010 and now has 18 billion cfpd capacity.
