Evaluating the results
Evaluating the resultsHere is an article evaluating the results compared to the estimates. For all those here who were confused about the results, what should be excluded, and whether it was a miss or not, here is the bottom line. This article clearly mentions the unusual item I was talking about, and that after backing out the unusual item, the results beat estimates by 2 cents. Nice gain today on the good results.
From Globeinvestor:
Teck profit falls in quarter
ANDY HOFFMAN
00:00 EDT Tuesday, April 24, 2007
First-quarter profit at Teck Cominco Ltd. fell 20 per cent due to negative pricing adjustments on prior quarter sales and a non-cash loss from the sale of a refinery in 2004.
Profit was $360-million, or $1.66 a share compared with $448-million, or $2.06, in the same period last year. Excluding unusual items, profit was $1.80 a share, slightly ahead of analyst consensus estimates of $1.78.
