Stop loss

I set on to limit my loss.... when i buy i only buy thinking the share price will rise.. i am sometimes wrong anf price goes down... without a stoploss set its easy to say buy a share at 1.76.... then watch it go to 1.40.... buy some more because now you think its a bargain.... then watch it leak to 1.30.. get upset.... but still look for excuses.. and think manipulation..ect.. and cant sell because of fear of missing the upside.. then get some crappy news and boom.... shares are now 1.06... now you buy even more thinking screaming deal.. now with my method.. i set a downside limit at about 10%... i can buy in another time if i want to try again... so i would have lost 10% instead of 70%.. big loses are so hard to make up... admitting your wrong saves a boatload of cash....

I find it is foolish to buy on the way down... your betting on a loser.. buy on the way up and bet the winner .... quite simple.. limit the loss.. and harvest the profits...

COooOooL, and fun to watch you troll everyone and fun to watch the responses... No live theatre these days so these dramas will have to do buuuuuuuuutt.... it still doesn't actually answer my question, which was just a curiosity more than anything. Cheers, Notgnu

Whoa... over ten minutes and you didn't find the question or the answer? Are you using AOL? Here is the question and a contextual response to nf earlier: Question for you fish (or others) ... When a stop-loss or stop-buy is set who is it that can see it and who is it that cannot. I don't have any special software or access so I definately cannot see them but I know by ...more

Thanks fish. I found an answer but it is still contradictory: https://decodingmarkets.com/professional-traders-stop-losses/ Kinda says no one can see them and that some can??

I am about 99% sure that I can taunt the market slightly with stop-losses but I have no idea if i am taunting an algo or a trader when I do. When a market is kinda slow I drop in a sizeable stopl and then I see small trades strart moving the price down and then I pul my sell... mostly just for shites and giggles but was just wondering. When I traded in cash account, I used 2 always have stink bids in to catch stops. In cash account I had margin. But in tfsa and rsps I have to have the cash sitting to buy. So I only do large swings now. Make the same with way less work. nf

Hi notgnu.... i think the 1% prevails in this one.... conversely you could do the same with a TPO... most people struggle with both... taking profits is almost harder than limiting a loss... but the trigger for a slo or a tpo is not known to the market..just your broker.... there is no sell in until the trigger..... ask joe to confirm...

Hi fish. I am def. not against taking profits or dumping if I see a tide turning. I bought TKO day before yesterday and sold yesterday for a negative profit of 2 comissions but it saved me a 4% decline.  I'll be back when your stop gets hit :-))) Notgnu

Hey not. I know u own cmmc. One used 2 compare with tko a lot. Cmmc did a bought finance at the same time as tko. I did not c the commission. But likely around 6%.  Tko gave there sh a 20% haircut. I am standing pat. But I do not blame u for running. Time will tell what was the best descission. I gave decided to kill a 1500 pound grass fattened steer in 8 days. Then 15 grass fattened hens ...more

Ha... sounds like quite a feast worth. I will be back to TKO but want to watch what happens for the time being. NCU I'm holding strong.  Mostly flipping in and out of reits. I can get big margin on them and they move kinda slow and sometimes in a rather predictable fashion a couple hours behind sentiment in US news and the Dow. Cheers, N
