This is concerning. Published May 23/23

Chief Francis Laceese of Tl’esqox describes the Gibraltar mine as a “disaster waiting to happen.”

Located about 60 kilometres north of Williams Lake, B.C., it’s the fourth-largest open-pit mine in North America. Laceese’s Tsilqot’in community, Tl’esqox, is directly downstream.

The Gibraltar copper mine is among B.C.’s most polluting and high risk mines, according to a report released today by SkeenaWild Conservation Trust and BC Mining Law Reform Network.

Concerning to you maybe but not anyone else. Hey genius, Taseko has been receiving annual stewardship awards in that very spot annually for the past decade. Go away.

I know JowStockIQ is more dialed in than insiders at the project, but Sojitz had big enough concerns to want out.   In an article published last year in Mining Technology, Sojitz, a large Japanese firm that held 12.5% of the mine gave the following reasons as to why they wanted out.  The mine has an average annual production of 135Mlb of copper and 2.5Mlb of molybdenum (100 ...more

There was nothing there to back up those claims. Not saying they are not true but to make those claims without evidence is to treat common folk as ignorant. Tko has won award after award for both safety and environmental stewardship. Someone is fibbing:)) nf

To understand the politics in this area requires not taking things at face value. It is posturing.  Gibraltar has water that supports 5lb rainbows in their tailings pond and the Fraser River is actually cleaner after receiving the discharge water that it is upstream.

Yes. They have kept up land reclamation. When mine finally closes, they could landscape the benches and bottom with lots of boulders. There are lake trout in Lake superior that live with there food sources thousands of feet deep. They love hardrock boulder lanscape. Fill all the pits with water. The haul roads already in place for boat launch. Shut down will not be a biggy.  Copper holding: ...more

Rough guess. Each of 5 pits about 1 billion cub. feet. 6 billion gallons. Rain and evaporation minimal. There pit dewatering pumps, I will guess 1000 gal. per min. So 2 years if run steady. But could only pump on higher river levels. So probably 4 years per pit. nf

So labour and fuel, 2 millionmper pit minimum. nf
