The London REE Report: Gearing Up for EVs
SAN FRANCISCO – Friday, February 18, 2011 – ECOtality, Inc. (NASDAQ:ECTY), a leader in clean electric transportation and storage technologies, announced today it would host four informational forums throughout Tennessee to educate businesses on how to become electric vehicle (EV) ready. The forums will provide updates on The EV Project, the largest rollout of electric vehicles and infrastructure in the United States, and presentations from the key regional stakeholders.
The big story is the unfolding events in the Middle East, and what if any impact it will have on the immediate and future supply of oil to our developed lifestyle in the west. But that is a subject for a different blog, so today we take note of recent developments in our transition over towards an electric mobility world. This month the Electric Vehicle supporting infrastructure took a big leap forward in America, where EVs continue to suffer from negative media focus. But we open with Friday’s surprise announcement from Rolls Royce. RR will display an experimental electric vehicle at the March Geneva motor show.

Rolls-Royce to show electric car at Geneva motor show Luxury car maker
Rolls-Royce is to unveil an electric version of its Phantom flagship model at next month's Geneva motor show. The experimental car will not go into production but the company will use it to gauge customers' opinions. Chief executive Torsten Muller-Otvos said the firm was "seeking clarity on which alternative technologies may be suitable [in our] cars in the future". Parent company BMW is exploring a range of hybrid and all-electric solutions.
More.
Back in America, the support recharging infrastructure for EVs has gone into mass production. The great EV refuelling build out is about to get underway, in anticipation of widespread adoption of the second generation of EVs 2014 onwards.
ECOtality, Roush Begin Mass Manufacturing of Blink EV Charging Stations
Michigan Gov. Snyder Applauds Production of First Blink Electric Vehicle Home Charging Stations
LIVONIA, Mich. – February 11, 2011 – ECOtality, Inc. (NASDAQ:ECTY), a leader in clean electric transportation and storage technologies, today began the mass manufacturing of its Blink Level 2 Charging Stations at Roush Manufacturing. Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder will join executives from both companies at a ribbon-cutting event to witness the first Blink units roll off the manufacturing line.
---- ECOtality partnered with Roush in July 2010 to manufacture the company's flagship Blink home and commercial charging stations. The agreement marked a major move for Roush-a global powerhouse in cutting-edge product development, composition, creation and testing-into the electric vehicle industry. This is an important evolutionary step for Roush and the automotive industry, as an existing Roush automotive facility has been modified to now support the developing EV industry. With the opening of the facility, Roush has been able to rehire employees that were previously laid off.
----- The Blink charging stations form the centerpiece of the rich charging infrastructure network ECOtality is deploying as part of the DOE-backed EV Project. Recently, the Blink chargers received Underwriters Laboratories (UL) listing and production immediately started

Depending on quite what happens in the Middle East in the weeks and months ahead, and with it the price and availability of crude oil, the switch to “greener”, renewable energy, and a “smarter” integrated power grid, plus the adoption of megawatt grid storage, is likely to get a more vigorous strategic push. That is likely to be good news for those REE companies able to be up and running by mid decade.
