Press Release London, UK, 23rd April, 2009
Turbo Power Systems wins US$3.5 million Rail Power Electronics order
Turbo Power Systems Inc. (TPS), the power electronics and electrical machines company has won an order worth US$3.5 million from Bombardier Transportation for the supply of 140 sets of Auxiliary Converter major assemblies to run rail car heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) equipment.
The equipment is based on the original TPS auxiliary converter design already in service with the Malaysian integrated bus and rail public transportation company, RapidKL. The assemblies will be supplied by Bombardier Transportation to RapidKL as part of the fleet upgrade of the fully automated, driverless Kelana Jaya line in Kuala Lumpur.
The major assemblies (inverters) of the auxiliary converters are supplied from a 750Vdc source and provide 3 phase, 415V, on-board the rail cars. Two inverters are used to supply auxiliary power to each rail car. In the event of a loss of power from either inverter, the system ensures that the rail car HVAC equipment is supplied from the unaffected inverter, hence ensuring improved supply availability and passenger comfort.
"This order provides RapidKL with a proven and cost effective system for the comfort and safety of its’ passengers and is an excellent example of the growing after sales market for TPS products" said Paul Summers, Chief Executive of TPS.
