Ecoli Sources

I recently had a chance to speak with an expert in the field of food safety and micribiology and asked him if he had heard of Bioniche and specifically Econiche and he was quite familiar with both. He felt that Econiche was a tough sell to producers not only on the burden of cost and administration but more significantly because although it showed a reduction of Ecoli it wasn't 100% effective. He favored irradiation. I asked about water sheds and the impact on fruits and vegetables and he told me that this was difficult to link to cattle as ducks and geese were major spreaders of the bacteria also. Searching the net I found this, "Preliminary results indicate that more than 60% of the E-coli bacteria originate from avian sources.
". He did feel that vaccination and reduction were important but that it should be combined with other methods as an overall strategy for safer food.

"Preliminary results indicate that more than 60% of the E-coli bacteria originate from avian sources."   That may or may not be true, but for ecoli poisonings, probably virtually all originated from cattle. That stat is cherry picked for cattlemen to avoid having to pay $12 per cow and cut into their bottom line.   beech
