RE:Save Glen Abbey!Yes. Golf as a Cultural Heritage Site by the NIMBY faction in Oakville is a total BS arguement.
I prefer to call it a "sense of entitlement" because a dominant white wealthy liberal culture wants to preserve "theirs" but not allow for other more recent immigrants and cultures to get the exact same thing.
Clearly, if Oakville or the Province wants to "preserve" a golf course as a Cultural Heritage Site for future generations of the entitled wealthy liberals than they should pay the owners somewhere near the value of the property not as a gold course or a park, but as valued for highest and best use, which is residential/mixed use development. Anything else is nonsense.
The reason I say liberal is that a true conservative has a much greater sense of "live and let live", I have got mine, you go get yours, and not inclined to interfere in the affairs of someone else's private property.
It's a liberal attitude of people and government that thinks I can have mine but we will use the tools and power of courts, regulations, government, even confiscation of private property to prevent someone else from having the exact same thing.
Clearly the development plan is a reasonable thing with the dedicated set aside of open space.
