www.us-silver.comby KREM.comKREM.comPosted on August 2, 2011 at 7:40 PMWALLACE, Idaho-- The Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office told KREM 2 News that a person was hurt at the Galena Mine in the Silver Valley late Tuesday afternoon.Authorities did not release the severity of the injury or how it happened.The call came into the Sheriff’s Office from the mine at 4:51 p.m. Tuesday. Deputies and paramedics showed up at the mine and transported one person by ambulance to a hospital.A person who answered the phone at the Galena Mine at 7 p.m. told KREM 2 News people at the mine were “way too busy” to answer any questions.The Galena Silver Mine opened in 1887. In 2006, Coeur d’Alene Mines sold the Galena and Coeur mines and other holdings to U.S. Silver Corporation. The Galena mine employs about 180 people. The mine is one of only two operating silver mines in the Silver Valley. Galena is one of the deepest mines in North America, with workers descending about a mile underground to extract silver and copper ore.
