A post from the village says it well IMO Amongst the general populace there is broad ignorance in the fact that modern life is to a great degree a fabric woven out of strands of hydrocarbons.
We spend our waking hours touching hydrocarbons (in one form or another); just as I am currently touching the plastic keys of my laptop as I type this 'sermon to the choir'.
It is my belief that without wide spread use of hydrocarbons, the planet could support a population of about 1 Billion (most living at a subsistence level); and the bulk with a lower life expectancy. Without the wide spread use of hydrocarbons the planet would shed 7 Billion 'surplus' individuals.
The only viable substitute as a primary energy source is nuclear energy; and little progress is currently being made in increasing its adoption. And even a nuclear powered future would require more than a modicum reliance upon hydrocarbons.
What we are forced to listen to is pure lunacy .... Blah, Blah, Blah!
