Does the restatement need to be a negative one?

Down after hours, all of this panic meanwhile the stock is less than 1/3 of what it was 6 months ago.. All for what? Nothing fundamental and concrete has officially changed. And in regards to the possible restatement that there is rumour about.. Does that have to be a bad thing? Are all restatements a bad thing? Isn't there the possibility they will come clean about where they went wrong and explain how they will improve and avoid similar future circumstances? Or maybe even that the whole accusation is a fraud and they didn't do anything wrong? I mean there's a lot of negative sentiment here but no one is looking at the positive side of things. IMO. NHC did a restatement (after shorts piled on) and they have bounced back nicely on short covering in the past week. VRX will find a bottom... somewhere.

NHC's restatement was for non-cash items. Valeant's potential restatement is related to revenue (As Valeant's special committee was set up to review cash items). Revenue recognition errors are dreaded by investors due to accounting frauds in the past by other companies. In addition, CVS health dealt a blow to Valeant as well today: https://fortune.com/2016/02/22/cvs-valeant/?xid ...more
