Making a case for OPEC+Mr Biden asked the Opec + countries to raise their production in order to stave off inflation in the global recovery. Opec+ refused and there is a concerted effort globally to tap into the petrol reserves in order to depress the oil price. Major powers like the US, China and India, think they are going to have their way and force Opec'+ to buckle under pressure. Good luck. Opec+ headed by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia announced today they may reassess the production quotas and offset the international pressure by the powers. Their rationale is as follows: Industrial powers , especially the West, when they sell their products to these countries, they aim for the top dollar, no discounts are given. Yet they want the oil producing countries to lower the oil price , the only source of revenues they have to balance their budgets and even diversify their dependence on oil, a natural source that eventually will be depleted. In other words the industrial west want their cake and eat it too. I suspect times have changed and the gun boat diplomacy is gone for ever. Each for himself will be the new mantra.
