Canaccord top pick
Target $14,.00.
Additionally, we also reiterate our two recent top picks (see our April 8, 2024 top picks refresh here) in the energy sector with WCP and TPZ. As we’ve previously highlighted, WCP provides investors with, in our view, a sustainable ~7.0% dividend while growing its production base by ~5% per year (CAGR) through 2028 and has the depth of inventory to facilitate this (~19 years of drilling inventory).

Thanks Westcoastenergy, Whitecaps share price is a wee bit of a lagger but I like the monthly pay checks...

The point is those who are saying that share price difference is not important because of a higher 2 cent monthly dividend is not looking at it rationally. Everyone that has WCP should care about share price appreciation and should weigh it more importantly than a 2 cent monthly dividend compared to its peers without any excuses for poor performance.

I agree with you completely James, shareprice and dividend must be taken in to consideration and although I believe it may be a somewhat overrated, at some point we do have to get around to comparing debt as well. I own shares in both and still think both have room to grow shareprice

Bryska stated there will be no more CPG special dividends until debt has been reduced. Earliest would be sometime in 2026. Agree WCP share price lower than CPG is nonsensical. That being said, there are lots of games going on with CPG by firms trying very hard to find a greater fool.

Thanks for doing the calculations on the dividend comparisons between WCP and CPG. Personally, I pefer the capital gains income tax rate over the dividend income tax rate. It's wonderful that we individually are able to choose the shares we prefer to hold and to decide how we are going to profit the most as we hold and/or sell our holdings.
