When do you think we get a special dividend?

On August 31, CNQ will be paying $1.50 per share special dividend.  CNQ being about 25% of XEG will bring a lot of cash to us.  Many special dividends to come.  I am hoping that by Christmas, we get the great news.

Good question. I'm not sure how these ETFs calculate their distributions. I've held this ETF for several years now and, the distributions have usually been on the low side but recently, since the price of oil has gone up, they've (the distributions) have been much bigger. The last one in June was massive. Seems that the distributions do go up based on how well the companies are doing.

A special dividend has to be coming, but when?  Suncor doubled its dividend less than a year ago then increased it again another 12% in June 2022.   CNQ announced a special dividend of $1.50 payable August 31, 2022.  Cenovus said they will triple the dividend in 2nd quarter and plan for even more increases.  Tourmaline paid 3 special dividends and the last one was $2 per ...more

The next planned distribution for XEG is around the end of September. XEG holds all Canadian companies which have been doing quite well of late but there's no guarantee that will continue. At least, not to the extent of the past 6 months or so. Particularly, there is some talk that the international community may start buying Iranian oil again. If that happens, that will add about 1 million ...more
