TORONTO, Dec 31 (Reuters) - Toronto's main stock index closed slightly higher on Friday in sparse New Year's Eve trading, as strong metal prices and a rally in miners kept the market on track for its best December in five years and double-digit growth in 2010.
The Toronto Stock Exchange's S&P/TSX composite index <.GSPTSE> unofficially closed up 8.81 points, or 0.07 percent to 13,443.22. (Reporting by Claire Sibonney)
