question for the board re taxes

question for the board re taxesAm I crazy or what? I just sent Kim Parlee of bnn (talking tax) an email for the show. I was looking at my pay stub the other day and noticed the government has taken $18000 for general taxes (without EI and CPP). Is there a way of opting out of the bi-weekly deduction and settling the account when it is due. I'm thinking that I could set aside the money myself in a daily interest account (ING 3.75%). In a year (16 months actually the first time) I would reap over $1000 in interest. And why has no one challenged the government regarding this - how is it that they can take such vast sums of money without giving you anything in return. I'd love to see a retroactive class action suit regarding this. Can anyone help me out with this. TIA.....glta!! I ask this board as it appears there are some very informed posters here.
