RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:Bernard & Echo

RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:Bernard & EchoDr. Wong, most of your points are well taken. However, you state that HLD reprocessing uses H2O2 and seems to equate the two. High Level Disinfection, HLD, using an Olympus, Steris or Medivators reprocessor for example, actually uses peracidtic acid or gluteraldehyde, not H2O2, as far as I am aware.

Your point that the VP4 replaces both HLD + ETO (with the increased costs of this combination, both in terms of expense and wear to the scopes) is valid. As I have stated, I hope that TSO3 is soon able to publish data that they have collected that shows the VP4 is actually more gentle than HLD + ETO on scopes as you mentioned in a previous post.

It should also be noted, again, that TSO3 has published this recent data in AJIC, collected no doubt as part of their FDA submission and due to newer FDA demands that any new sterilizer be able to demonstrate the ability to sterilize a scope even with bioburden on it and in it. No other ETO LTS unit or H2O2 LTS can do this nor has their manufacturer made a similar submission to the FDA for validation because they would likely fail to show efficacy. Let there be no doubt about it: not only are Steris and ASP makers of older H2O2 LTS systems aware of the new kid - VP4- on the bloc, but 3M and other ETO manufacturers are well aware of TSO3 as a new more practical competitor to their very old toxic technology, and TSO3 is also targeting the 12% of users who do sometimes employ ETO to sterilize duodenoscopes.
