Sterilization of Flexible Endoscopes 2:45 PM - 3:45 PM

Based on their application, flexible endoscopes are considered semi-critical medical devices that require sterilization, if feasible, or high-level disinfection (HLD) if sterilization is impractical. Sterilization, in general, provides a greater margin of safety than HLD; therefore, it is expected that by shifting all HLD processes to sterilization, the risk of infection through flexible endoscopy will drop considerably. In this presentation, we will discuss how high demands from healthcare facilities, as well as technological advancements in both endoscope materials and sterilization, could make low-temperature sterilization modalities practical for flexible endoscopes.
