RE: RE: Indium replacement found...<cynicism>
I always laugh when I see these kinds of announcements. I'm old enough to remember the plastics revolution and the gurgling from scientists that plastic would replace glass because it was cheaper to make and wouldn't break if it was hit by Johnny's baseball. Of course they failed to mention that plastics scratch so easily as to make them useless as a glass replacement, not to mention that plastics are often degraded by UV light and discolor over time. Bottom line our windows are still made out of glass.
And then there's nuclear energy which was going to replace all those coal power plants. I saw the newsreels. The future was going to be all nuclear, clean, safe, economical .... well so much for that dream. Sure, nuclear is a part of our future, but demand for coal is greater than ever.
Yeah, maybe these guys or someone else will come up with something to replace Indium but I'm not going to hold my breath waiting for it. It's also just as likely that someone else will find an offsetting use for Indium in another area of technology.
