You call yourself a sophisticated trader, and yet you don't seem to understand one the most simple rule of Finance...
Any share purchase (in the market of through private placement) before the ex-dividend date is entitled to the dividend...
Furthermore, by simple logic, anybody who sell there shares now, before the ex-dividend date, gives up its right to the dividend.
That rule not only applies to the new investors but to all new investors...
