They hope to have 4 rigs (3 Diamond and 1 RC) on site by the end of April with drills turning by May.

Quick question! How many here know the difference in the drilling method? And the benefits. Likely very few now or will bother to find out.

Chris mentioned in an interview that they had a tough time getting through the top 300m with the core drills so they will use the RC drill to start the holes and then the core drills would do the rest. Starting the holes with the RC (chipping type drill...they can still assy the chips) and hiring more core cutters, new core shack will alll help to streamline the process of getting the core to the ...more

A reverse circulation drill (RC) uses a 6 or 8 inch tricone bit to grind through the sediment and/or rock.  It works well in sand and gravel and friable sedimentary rock.  Not so well in clay and granite.  The hole can be cased so a diamond drill string can be sent down the hole.  Theoretically, everything is recoverable and resusable except for the bits which have to be ...more

They should bring in a sonic dril....then case it anfd use the diamond drills. It's a lot easier to get through the heavy overburden.

It is my understanding that the overburden isn't the problem.  It's the Hercules rhyolite which is just barely holding together.  Until they go through the unconformity into the Seven Devils volcanics the rock is ****!  I have no first hand knowlege.  I am a long ways away.

If you listen to CP in the Goldfinger interview he talks about the upper crust being busted up, shattered, clay and they will use an RC collar for about the first 200m until they get to the rhyolite, porphyr and then collar them and the diamond rigs will come in.
