Privatization and the 3 groups / subsidiariesThere seems to be some confusion as to which mine goes into which group and whether or not Pobrdje is in fact in one of the groups. I hope this helps clarify things a little bit.
The red text is my attempt to specify where a mine is located relative to other mines on the various maps. I embedded 3 maps that best illustrate the various mine locations listed in the text below.
The numbers highlighted in
yellow match the numbered bullets list so you can follow through the list as given by the privatization adviser.
On January 3, 2016 the privatization adviser Duni said that, when it comes to public company for underground coal mining (JP PEU) "Resavica", they planned to distribute the companies into three subsidiaries (or groups).
She said...
- the first group of the mines that remain in the composition of JP PEU - "Rembas" (1), "Soko" (2) and "Lubnica" (3),
- in the second group are the mines that are in gradually closing - "Senjski mine" (4) (near or part of Rembas) pit mine and caves "Tadenje" (5) (belongs to Ibar Mines and is just north of Jarando coal which also contains Pobrdje deposit in the south of its coal license) and "Jardo" (6) (Jarando perhaps?? see diagram of Erin Ventures' licenses) Ibarskih mine, "Jasenovac" (7), "Bogovina" (8), "Vrka Cuka" (9).
- The third group of mine to find strategic partners, she said, make "tavalj" (10) Boron minerals and West Morava (11) basin Ibarskih mine, Aleksinaki (12) mines (production slate).
The Company’s activities – production, transport, coal refining and processing, maintenance of equipment, construction and investment activities are performed in the following sectors-mines:
- Brown Coal Mine Rembas, Resavica First Group
- Brown Coal Mine Soko, Soko banja First Group
- Lignite mine Lubnica, Lubnica First Group
- Senjski mine Second Group
- Tadenje Second Group
- Jardo (or Jarando??) Second Group
- Brown Coal Mine Jasenovac, Krepoljin Second Group
- Brown Coal Mine Bogovina, Bogovina Second Group
- Anthracite mine Vrka uka, Avramica Second Group
- Brown Coal Mine tavalj, tavalj Third Group
- West Morava Third Group
- Mine Aleksinaki rudnici Third Group
Hard Coal Mines Ibarski rudnici, Baljevac 2nd and 3rd Groups
In the above list, Ibarski Rudnici (Ibar Mines) includes Tadenje, Jardo (or Jarando??) and West Morava.
Every coal license held by Ibar Mines EXCEPT Pobrdje is mentioned in the January 3rd article.
Pobrdje is in the southern section of the Jarando coal license area but it is still inside the boundaries of the Jarando boundaries which is part of group 2. We know that there is 2-4 years of boron left in Pobrdje.

In August 2016, Mining Minister Antic told reporters during a tour of Ibar Mines that Balkan Gold found a rich field of boron minerals whose value is estimated at about a half a billion euros. He pointed out that it is or great importance to the region to work on the exploitation of this mineral in a boric acid factory, if they can open it, and that it will employ 500 to 1,000 people.
Antic also said that he will discuss with Balkan Gold the possibility of a partnership to open a boron mine. Clearly he is referring to Piskanja because he refers to 7.5 million tons of minerals which Pobrdje does not have.
Pobrdje would make the perfect pilot project for boron extraction and refinement in a boric acid plant.
Pobrdje is not mentioned by the privatization adviser nor by Mining Minister Antic but it does not make sense to give a mine with a 2-4 year life span to another company when the property is in such close proximity to Erin Ventures' Piskanja and Jarandol licenses.
I added to my position recently in anticipation of some much anticipated development by the government after June 16.
Cheers,
VB
