here is a big new marketAccucell last year bid on and won a contract to provide Thyssen Krupp AG with power units for rail cars to power gps units that allows the Rail companies to track Rail cars. These units are commprised of battery packs with 16 RAM cells and solar panels. Krupp bought 5000 units at 80.00 US per unit. I understand that they were very happy with the way the products performed. I also understand they are hoping for a follow up order shortly.
These products carry a high profit margin.
Rail companies in North America also have similar devices on all their cars.
Hard to calculate how big the market is, bus CSX in a recent report spoke of 3,600,000 separate trips per year.
I also saw that CSX, Burlington Northern, Canadian National, Norfolk Southern, and one other rail company had formed an alliance to allow customers to track orders the same way you can with Fedex.
You could imagine the considerable cost of changing battery packs with one use batteries in them on every rail car.
There would be significant cost savings if you could improve the maintanance of these units 10 or 20 fold. The RAM cells are better able to hold a charge under conditions of expreme cold and heat.
This type of market has been contemplated for years by BTI and the huge plus is the value added that comes with a device and not just cells.
