Elk ValleyWas reading numerous articles about the elk valley and Kootenay River drainage and there sure is a lot of write-ups about the high selenium levels in the waters. Teck has had big fines and supposedly have been trying to address some of the problems but until the selenium levels are reduced from the coal mines it seems that getting an operational license for Bull River Mine is bound to face some strong headwinds. There is no excuse for pollution to continue in this day and age imho...Too bad .. because it seems to me that BRM is as much a victim of just being in that area as anything else.
Guess we can hope for the best and see what happens!
If mining all gets painted with the same brush as simply being a source of pollution then the industry will continue to suffer, so it seems that the mining companies must come up with innovative ways to reduce pollution to an absolute minimum. If they can do that i'd wager that licenses and permits would be more easily acquired.
Guess we'll just have to wait and see how this all develops.
