Copper and gold mineralisation has been uncovered on-surface at SolGold’s (LON:SOLG) Trivino target on the Cascabel Project in Norther Ecuador.
Its full extent has yet to be established but it currently covers an area of 300 metres by 200. It also displays the “classic porphyry stockwork style”, the company said in a statement. Porphyry deposits are volcanic in origin and tend to be associated in South America in particular with giant copper discoveries.
The company reckons it has identified five porphyry centres in what it calls the Cascabel cluster.
Trivino will be the subject of rocksaw channel sampling – which is where a giant power saw is used to cut out lumps of mineralised rock for further analysis. Detailed mapping will also take place.
Trivino is two kilometres north east of Alpala, the firm’s most advanced discovery.
SolGold reckons the latest find “highlights the fertility and potential of the broader porphyry copper-gold system at Cascabel”. “Mineralised surface outcrops such as these, in such close proximity to the vertically extensive high grade copper and gold mineralization discovered at Alpala, make for certain drill targets,” it added.
“The frequency of mineralised outcrops of porphyry at Cascabel endorses the importance of this system as a globally significant discovery.”
