“Canada Nickel shows a really good process in regards to how First Nations should be involved, by participating by actually investing into this project,” Archibald said.

 

Selby and Minister of Mines George Pirie underlined the importance of the proposed nickel mine’s low carbon footprint.

 

They argued the current global supply of nickel has a high carbon footprint.

 

“We don’t want the nickel from Indonesia. It’s powered by coal,” Pirie said “And we don’t want the cobalt from the Congo. Everybody knows what’s happening in the Congo. We’ve got the solution right here in Ontario.”

 

The Congo uses child labour to mine Cobalt.
