Diamond & Specialty Minerals Summary for Jan. 19, 2021

2021-01-19 20:16 ET - Market Summary

by Will Purcell

Jean-Sebastien Lavallee's Critical Elements Lithium Inc. (CRE), down six cents to $1.23 on 1.7 million shares, says that its Rose lithium and tantalum project in the James Bay region of Northern Quebec will proceed to public hearings next month. These hearings are in conjunction with the environmental and social impact assessments that are under way, after which the provincial government will decide whether to recommend that the project proceed.

Rose cleared feasibility in 2017 based on a plan to mine 26.8 million tonnes of ore grading 0.85 per cent lithium oxide and 133 ppm tantalum oxide, enough to sustain a 4,600-tonne-per-day mine for 17 years. The bottom line, a discounted net present value of $726-million after taxes, is impressive -- but so is the $341-million capital cost of the mine.
