Wind farms may have warming effect: research

I didn't want to wake up and see this...

"(Reuters) - Large wind farms might have a warming effect on the local climate, research in the United States showed on Sunday, casting a shadow over the long-term sustainability of wind power."

Oh thats not good...of course the study is coming from the states and was probably put together by the oil companies so I am taking it with a grain of salt.   I did find the growth rates of wind power globally very interesting at the beginning of the article.

The title and the premise of the article is propaganda. Think about what global warming is and why it is so bad. Localized climate changes of 1 degree directly overhead wind farms because the turbine is moving is not such an issue. That would be like saying the air directly above your stove is a little warmer when your stove is on. What an observation! Might as well turn off every power generating ...more

With that in mind, Vestas is down 5% today on light volume, Gamesa hasn't traded yet. So maybe the article has had a slight effect, or maybe it's just that small caps are getting kicked in the face again today. CTW holders, its probably a good idea for you to follow these two symbols so you know how wind stocks are doing:   VWDRY GCTAY   Both are pink sheet stocks.

I live in the middle of a loosely strung out wind "farm"/project on Lake Erie's north shore. Totally in the middle of various vegetable/fruit and corn/bean farms. I'm kinda curious how this supposed warming effect is to be considered  a "bad" thing? I mean, as opposed to such non-warming things as burning oil and gas or warming the Great Lakes with industrial and ...more

Vast studies were done on Nuclear Plants warming up the entire Great Lakes by over half a degree and two degrees at the water exhausting. This is the major cause of the algae and affected the entire eco system of the lakes. That was not enough to stop nuclear plants from being built and I may add in high density areas like Pickering. Which of the two evils do you think is worst? Japan ...more

Stupid birds. Can't you see those big spinny things up ahead and avoid them? I mean, it's not like they are everywhere and that difficult to navigate around. If a million die thanks to turbines, probably a billion smash themselves into trees!
Comment by knoll on Apr 30, 2012 12:05pm
I'm sure you were just kidding. it is the magnetic fields that the turbines generate that throws the birds navigation off. The birds are ok with the trees, its the shinny glass buildings they have isue with
