The short answer... debt is only a subset of a company's liabilities. You still have other non-cash financial obligations that you can be holding as a liability. Debt refers specifically to the borrowing of cash. In DM's case, given the trajectory of interest rates, it's an added bonus to be DEBT free as we are not exposed to inflationary interest expenses on loans as many other ...more

I believe that even deposits given on work not yet done (like the $1M from the EV customer maybe?) are considered liabilities. Other examples are taxes, money owed to suppliers and wages owed to staff at the time of the earnings release.
