No new potash mine in sask

No new potash mine in saskin 40 years. Here's why.

Getting to the deposits is tricky: Miners must dig through a treacherous, watery band around  mile down that flows like quicksand and can seep into mine shafts and flood the mine.Thepotash miners of the 1950s and '60ssolved that problem by temporarilyfreezing the band, then lowering in hundreds of cast-iron rings toprotect the mine shaft. The operation is so expensive that no new mines have been started for about 40 years.
